SMALL IDEAS
You don’t need to climb the ladder to feel successful: Better to find the right ladder and the rung that makes you the happiest.
Nobody knows what they want to be when they grow up: So don’t wait to feel like that, you’ll waste your precious time.
There is no timeline: Retrain at 41, reinvent at 52, revisit at 67. It doesn’t matter.
You are allowed to experiment with ideas: You don’t to pick a thing and stay with it for the rest of your life. It’s your career. Do what you want.
6 Harsh Truths of Life (That Reframe My Thinking Daily)
Nobody is coming to save you
For 3 years I did nothing about the fact that I was unhappy.
I was waiting.
Waiting for things to change, for someone to come and help me, for my life to change. Shocker, it didn’t. For those 3 years I had the same conversations with myself over and over again.
Then, bored of the same narrative I decided to write online and it changed things forever.
Here’s the 6 harsh truths of life it’s worth thinking about if you’re stuck.
1. Days and time spent are two different things
If you see your parents once a month, your grandparents once at Christmas the math is frightening.
If your rents are in their mid-fifties, once per month, average life span of 81, that’s 312 times, ever. Grandparents? Less, a lot less.
Family has always been the top of my priority list but it wasn’t until I started to see the numbers like that things became clearer. Every moment, every walk, every dinner, every conversation could be one of very few left.
Now I optimise for that, my aim is to spend as much time with the people I love, period.
